Because, FRAPS was Designed (way back when we only had 1 or 2 cores) to help take the CPU bottleneck out of the equation by using lossless encoding (less CPU, but a lot more I/O).
It shifted the resource consumption primarily from the CPU to the hard disk. With better processors, this is no longer needed.
So, the point I was making - is that if you have a capable CPU, use lossy encoding, which (when configured properly) will still result in perceptibly lossless video, at a fraction of the file size.
99.9% of the people using FRAPS for recording video have no need for Truly
lossless video (and the size that comes with it).
Something like this will do what the vast majority of people need, with still relatively little CPU use, and a whole lot less I/O (much smaller file sizes).
This takes about ~7-10% CPU for me @ 1680x1050 30fps.Edited by Trigunflame - 1/21/11 at 5:00pm
