I am wondering when I upgrade to my 1080P monitor if I should keep the GFX card I have and add another for CFX or get another GFX card.

*EDIT* Forgot to add the option of CFX 4890, so if you think that is a good choice say so in a post ^_^.

CFX 4890's are pretty fast, you could get one for 110 bucks ish and they would be faster than all of the AMD cards you listed for half price.

Getting a current gen card doesn't make much sense without using a higher resolution. Thus if you got a "new" card 5870/gtx470 I'd definitely suggest a monitor to go with it.

What I might do is get the monitor and if budget is tight then, get another 4890 which will no slouch for the next year. At that point you could look at the AMD what's out there?

At your resolution, id have to say none.
Really a 4890 is great for 1280x1024. If you want dx11 though, then remove ati 5xxx series from ur options. Either get a 4xx series or a 68/69xx series. the gtx 560 ti is coming real soon. I say wait for it as it will drop prices of other cards as well.

I ran CFX 4890s previously and honestly there wasn't much they couldn't run. I still have my CFX XFX 4890s with ek waterblocks collecting dust. They were upgraded not because they were slow, but because I had the funds and wanted to burn it on the new cards.

If you want more performance without spending a lot of cash, I say go for the 2nd 4890.

I'm selling 4890s in my sale thread for $100 if you're looking for one, can probably give you a discount.
