Help me buy a Portable laptop (14” ish)

Ok I know that the forum is full of these requests and I have read through some but want to ask the experts opinions specifically for my case.

I am looking for a laptop for my wife as she is going back to school to get her masters. This will be a word processor, internet machine 99% of the time. I like 14†screen sizes because I think it gives a good compromise in size and usability. We discussed it and came up with the following requirements and wants

Minimums:
Battery life: 4hrs
Less than 6 lbs
CPU: dual core
Memory: 2GB
HDD: 100GB+
DVD drive
Windows 7
Screen size: 13â€-15â€
Wireless N

Ideal add ons:
Battery life: 6+hrs
Less than 5 lbs
Memory: 4GB
HDD: 250GB+
Windows 7 64 bit
Screen size: 14â€
HDMI out

Budget is $500-600. Not in a big hurry just need to buy one by the end of February, so I can wait and watch for deals. Also not opposed to slightly used.

Options
Min

Ideal little more than I want to spend

As always thanks ahead of time

If the wife doesn't mind a smaller screen, here's one that's about $100 cheaper than the one you linked, same brand, same specs, just a smaller screen.

Yes that is an option but I think I want an on-board DVD player. I don't have a USB player so that would have to be bought. Thanks for the link.

Anyone else?

Try Walmart. My girlfriend got a new Acer laptop from them last week. It's physically larger than you are looking for but I'll include specs for price reference.

AMD X2 P340 (IIRC) 2.2Ghz
4GB DDR3
320GB HDD
ATI 4250 (HDMI/VGA outs)
15.6 LED-backlit LCD 1366x768
802.11n
7 Home Premium x64

Cost? $348 before tax, under $400 with tax and everything. No joke. OS alone costs half that.
