You can get a whole 15 piece Apple kit for 12 bucks on Amazon

, so there should be many cheaper out there than the 10 dollar ones if you look for it.

I just noticed that most of the articles from other sites on this topic all link to ifixit as well. Not that it means anything, just putting it out there.

That's it in a nutshell. On the PC side, hardware manufacturers do not make money from repairs (except for replacement/upgrade sales), so they don't care one way or the other if you take your PC to a tech or repair it yourself. Apple, however, has both parts and labor covered. If you repair it yourself, you aren't paying them to do it for you.

I'm not knocking Apple for this really. It's a perfect setup for people who aren't technically inclined or don't want to mess with it.

They use those screws because for the price Apple charges to replace your iPhone 4 battery I can get 8 batteries for my HTC Desire.

HTC desire battery is $20? O_o Does it not last very long or something?

I don't really understand all the people that try to get into an iphone anyway. They either fall under the category of "if you hadn't done that, you'd still be under warranty and the replacement is free" or "you replaced/had your screen replaced with a cheap knock of and it's not working? I am so surprised! Also, now you can't even buy a replacement because you don't have a complete original phone to swap."

It's a 5,6 or 7 HUNDRED DOLLARS phone. Take care of it? If something happens, you can replace it for 1/3 or less of the price provided you can swap back something worth the price reduction (IE your original phone parts). If something less drastic happened (camera, ringer, back side, etc...) it's considerably less and there's really no reason to want to go elsewhere to have it repaired.

Really don't understand people that freak out over this.

Actually the extended battery for an EVO and HD2 are only $30, and they last days versus the stock battery not even lasting a full day.
