dont tell me you wouldnt go to an apple store if you were to accidentally screw something up, like one of the many ribbon cables they use to connect different components. and just suck it up that you screwed up a 1k+ piece of equipment.

I work on HP workstations. They use torx screws on their optical drives and hard drives. Apple isn't the only one, folks. Just because Apple uses yet another different screw people are getting all up in arms. It's funny.

btw, you need a special rig to service the logic board/fan on certain models. No one would have that equipment unless you were at an AASP or Apple--or risk damaging the logic board/motherboard.

I thought this is just a star screw? I've taken my mac book pro apart so many times changing the hard drive and stuff.

I can see a class action suit when somebody brings in there Iphone and tells them not to put the screws in and they do. It could make a lawyer some major cash. Apple I dont think can replace screws unless the customer agrees to have them replaced. Its like going to toyota dealership for service and they replac screws on your corolla's air filter case with a security screw so only they can replace your air filter.

Its not that they use them, its that they are changing them, probably without telling the customer.

This is how it works in the real world, but Apple instead chooses to get extremely butthurt when people try to customize their "art" in any way.

If you don't care about a warranty, or apple care, and don't want apple to repair anything of yours, then feel free to tamper with it. Apple doesn't care. They are just trying to cover their butt.

It's not like they're changing them when they're sent for repair.

it's like a version change. New ones from now on out will come with these screws. Nothing unethical about that. Macbooks screws changed screws with a revision change.

Umm... NO. You would be thrown out of court and laughed at. You would need to prove that they are libel for damages of some sort. Where are your damages? Lost time off work? Injury or medical expenses? Pain and suffering? You having to buy a different driver set to remove those screws does not constitute a need for reimbursement.

I don't see why people are hating Apple for choosing these screws. It's Apple's product, why does it matter what screws they use? Sure it's an odd bit type but it's not like Apple is making it so that if you open the product it harms the product.

It's really not that big of a deal.
