Temps seem a little high...

Thread Starter
Hey guys, so I finally got my new processor in (the 1090T) and my Zalman 9500A air cooler. What seems strange is the temps seem a tad high. When idling it sits around 36c with stock settings. Motherboard temp is 30c. Now I know these aren't dangerously high, but after 5 mins of WoW the temp was up to 54c. I want to overclock but I'm not sure if the cooler will hold it down. What do you guys think? Should I re-apply or give it time to burn in? I was also thinking about picking up the Corsair H50. Thanks for your help.

What TIM are you using currently, and how much.

you can try to reseat the Zalman and/or lap both the CPU and the cooler.

I have an h50 on my 1055t and am at 4Ghz and currently at my room temperature (16 degrees) and i have yet to see it go above 45 degrees during prime

I'm using 8gb of DDR3 from G.Skill (ripjaw series). Also I just ran Prime95 for about 10-15 mins and sure enough my temps never went below 54c :/. Heres a screenie: And this is with my Zalman completely maxed out fan speeds (which gets REALLY loud).

And what did you mean by lapping the chip/cooler? I'm unfamiliar with this term.

Not ram TIM (thermal paste) because some need to cure and set for as much as 200 hours

Lapping Guide

I dont suggest lapping anything unless you are comfortable with the process, I didn't have to do it with my h50/1055t myself

Oh sorry I thought DIMM as I read it lol.. I'm using AS5. Even after curing, would it drop 15c? I read that the H50 paste that comes with it doesnt need to cure.

as5 takes a while to cure so id wait a few days and if they dont come down then try a reseat.

i doubt that they will come down that far so i personally would try reseat now and see if that helps

Eh I'm about to head out to the doc, so I'll probably pick up an h-50 at Best Buy since I work there and get it for 54$.
