Hi all! Hoping you can offer up some wisdom on putting together a new gaming rig:

Case: Coolermaster HAF-X RC-942-KKN1
MOBO: Asus Maximus IV Extreme LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6gb/s USB 3.0 ext.
CPU: Intel Core i7 2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4ghz LGA 1155 P5W Quad Core
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-d14 120mm & 140mm SSO
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-pin DDR3 SDRAM 2000 PC3 16000
PSU: Corsair HX CMPSU-850W ATX 12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 80+ Silver
HD: Corsair Force CSSD-F240GB2-BRKT 2.5" 240GB SATA II MLC
GPU: EVGA Superclocked GTX580
Sound: Creative SB X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro.

Are there any issues with compatibility or other hardware concerns I should be aware of?

Thanks!

All in all a great rig, but the only weak point i see is the hard drive, get a 1tb drive for storage/games and a 60-100gb ssd for the operating system, That will speed things up nicely

I've heard there's been some issues with the Asus 1155 boards, I've been reading about buggy bios and OC stability issues...could be worth looking into?

Alternatively, the Gigabyte P67 UD4 or high end UD7 seem to have had alot of good press, so they may be worth considering. Everything else looks absolutely spot on, it's going to be a killer rig.

You're selecting tri-channel RAM for a dual-channel setup. I suggest you purchase dual-channel RAM, as sometimes when RAM is sold as tri-channel there are small issues (even with the single sticks if run in dual-channel). Also it's a lot cheaper to buy two packs of two sticks, rather than a pack of three and a pack of one.

I'd also say you should get a 950W power supply incase you plan to get SLI 580's and overclock. They are power hogs.

Thank you for the advice! Yea I've got a couple 1TB external HDDs already so I wasnt thinking about putting in an internal besides the SSD but... it's not terribly expensive to throw one in and continue to use the externals as backup.

Board wise, looks like the Maximus is still in the throes of discussion on what exactly happened there with some problem reported out of Germany and the latest seems to be that ASUS is still trying to reproduce an error but that overall it seems sound unless a lot of heavy OC is being done on them which is something I'm not worried about atm.

Some ways down the line I'll be going to SLI with two GTX 580s but I dont foresee that in the near future. Will the 850 PSU be enough if I dont OC heavily or better to up to the 950 to be sure?

Thanks!

The real question isss... is it better to go with the ASUS WS Revolution then? It will save me some bucks and has the triple channel RAM so that solves that problem too. Are there any other major differences between it and the Maximus I should be aware of that could affect the build?

The HX850 will more than handle your setup with 1 GTX 580, even if you massively overclock...I'm not certain of the power draw of those 580's so I'm not sure if you could get away with running 2 on the 850W, my guess is you would be cutting it extremely fine in terms of the Power Supplies capabilities if you tried!

whew... well glad I waited a bit and waffled figuring out specs... revised below!

Case: Coolermaster HAF-X RC-942-KKN1
MOBO: Asus P6T6 WS Revolution
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-d14 120mm & 140mm SSO
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-pin DDR3 SDRAM 2000 PC3 16000
PSU: Corsair HX CMPSU-1000HX ATX 12V 2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 80+
HD: Corsair Force CSSD-F240GB2-BRKT 2.5" 240GB SATA II MLC
GPU: EVGA Superclocked GTX580
Sound: Creative SB X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro.
MX-4 Arctic Cooling Compound
Additional 200mm fan for the top of the case.

Have a question on CPU, is there any real advantage or disadvantage between the extreme edition Bloomfield and the Gulftown? the price difference at that point is minimal. Any preferences? Other options that are just as good speed wise but cheaper?

Thanks!

the only thing not fitting in this killer build is the 12 GB tripple chanel ram since 1155\\1156 sockets handle only dual chanel ram , and sata 2 SSD , but if u want other options that are cheaper and wield the near same perfomance i would go with Asus p67 Pro , 8GB of 1600 Mhz ram , GTX 570 (looses couple fps to 580 but costs 200 bucks less ) and Crusial SSD sata 3
