[NewEgg] Sennheiser HD201 - Page 2

If you aren't in dire need for a new set of headphones, wait a few weeks for the 202's to drop to $15 on either amazon or newegg. Use www.camelegg.com to track on Newegg or www.camelcamelcamel.com to track on amazon:

http://camelegg.com/product/N82E16826106306
http://camelcamelcamel.com/Sennheise...uct/B000065BP9

See, on both sites, according to the history, the 202's were 14.99 in Nov/Dec.

I bought the 202's last month for my sister, they sound pretty decent for the price. Im sure the 201's sound just as good. Good deal though OP.

Recording geek here. First off, for the people knocking cheap headphones... These are Sennheisers. Cheap, yes... and you get what you pay for, yes. However, as brands go, Sennheiser is top notch when it comes to audio. So I have to say on that basis, I'm going to give these a go. In fact, I was darn close to buying a pair at $20 less than a week ago. This seals the deal for me.

202's reportedly have heavier bass. They are more of a DJ version, from what I've read, whereas the 201's are more neutral (or perhaps light on bass... I don't know, haven't heard them personally).

So for hip hop? Yes, I'd go with the 202's for sure. That seems to be the consensus comparison of these two options on most audio forums I've looked at.

FWIW I have had them for quite awhile. For $15 I highly doubt you will find anything better. They don't have much for bass but in that price range I woulnd't expect much. Unlike most I find them fairly comfortable, mine are very broke in though. Also I've found them to be very durable. As many times as these have been dropped on the floor or kicked across the room they should've broke along time ago and they're still in good shape. Just don't expect them to be that set of headphones that you spent $15 on and sound as good as a $100 pair, it just isn't going to happen. From reviews if you have $40 to spend you're going to be better off with some JVC HA-RX700 especially in the bass department; but for a cheap beater pair of cans the HD201's are pretty good for $15.

[edit to add] pairing them with the cheap xonar DG sound card with the built in headphone amp made a world of difference over onboard sound. Out of stock now but they've been in and out ever since they came out. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829132020

Another thing to remember is that the 202s are on-ear headphones while the 201s are over-the-ear. People have different comfort levels, ear shapes, and preferences so pick the one that is best for you. Comfort is an important factor with headphones and I think the sound quality differences between the two wouldn't be all that different.

I also have the 201s and I can say they sound pretty clear. They lack in the bass department and isolation isn't all that great. Sound leakage is good so you don't have to worry about bothering others unless you are pushing these to the max. All-in-all pretty decent set of cans for 15 bucks.

Good point Seeing Red, I didn't notice that the 201's are complete over the ear.

Got mine for $20 and let them burn in overnight for 5 days. Sound quality is excellent once they're worn in, adds more bass as well. Defo great closed cans for the money.
