MSI cube

Thread Starter
Hi everyone,

I have just aquired a nice MSI cube off a mate, its running a P4 3.0Ghz processor and im currently running ubuntu as a stepping stone.

I thought I would post up some photos of it before I gave it a clean and did some work on it lol the air flow is terrible! If you have a graphics card in the slot it basically blocks one end of the CPU cooling tunnel (it has push/pull fans for cooling)

Here are some basic before photos:

That is really sexy. Shuttle has nothing on MSI.

I like the dialup modem

Its got a PCI slot and an AGP 8x which the start splash screen boasts about

I have give it a clean, the intake fan was basically holding about a million tons of dust lol this has now gone and it has dropped the CPU temp by 20C

The cool thing about this system is that its actually got a built in hi-fi (hence the plug at the back for the signal)

There is some space above where the RAM is for a secondary hard drive, but I will see if I can remove that to get some better air flow!

Its running a P4 @ 3.0Ghz, its a Prescott core so its 200 x 15, wish it was a northwood core as thats got a multiplier of 30!

Its now running XP and I am currently trying to find a way to overclock it, but its an MSI board, its not a usual board that seems to be supported by most OC programs it seems

Tried in the BIOS, there is a place for it to be tweeked, but it doesn't allow allow it (I can increase the FSB for 233 from 200, but it never saves it)

Its one of these:

I think its about 6 years old, I will see what I want to do with it, was hopeing that his free PC to me system was a bit bigger as I will be running phase cooling on a 478 or 775 socket mobo lol don't think I will be using this rig!

I have now cleaned the heatsink....dropped temps by 20C

You need to buy some High performance fans

Som high performance DDR (Some DDR ram can > DDR3!!)

and maybe even one of these

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102851

And last some sort of SSD if it has SATA

Yeah I am going to look at getting some better fans etc, but might just have it as a spare backup rig, its currently folding at the moment.

It seems I can't overclock it, I have tried, the clock generator is ICS952617 which isn't a standard clock gen for most of the aftermarket software etc, BIOS isn't much help either so im a bit stuck!
