Looks like I can't post a new thread in the Marketplace, which I am assuming is because I'm new and not an established member yet. But I was just wondering what everyone does with their old machines. Seems like a lot of guys have newer builds, and I was looking to see what an older rig would go for. I was looking around for an older model that runs XP and was curious if anyone here has one and what it would run. I just want to be able to play and mod some older sports games like NBA Live and MVP Baseball. I had an old XPS 400 that worked well, but I am venturing to guess there are better setups for it around here.

I would agree with this. The first PC that I built was a socket 939 Linux PC, so if things went wrong I wasn't that much out of money. And anyway, it's still fairly modern and helps you get a better knowledge of how to build a more modern one. The only problem I had, was that I bought the cheapest case and regret it for 2 reasons: 1. The Metal is sharp. Very Sharp. 2. I cut my finger on it.
Buying a cheap case, is almost always regretted by people unless it's a budget computer. Cases definitely are overlooked by new people most of the time.

Welcome! This is a great place to learn... it's tons of fun.

My biggest suggestion is if someone helps you or says something useful... make sure to +rep them.

Thanks! That definitely is much better. I spent around that much for the XPS several years ago. I'm now wondering what something like that goes for around here.

Hahahaha. Absolutely. It's a great community. And did I say it's fun to build computers yet?

Yeah, it sounds like fun. I've only gone as far as swapping out hard drives, RAM, and cd drives. But for some reason, I've never made the leap to building one from scratch, so I will be learning soon.
