Illegal ? How? Its not like they are selling it as NEW cards trying to fool consumers. They already stated hey these 5700 cards have the perfect performance we want for the 6700 cards. So they are not making them as 5700 anymore but 6700 to reflect their position in the new line.
Had they just done it secretly and then came and announced "Yo pps look at our brand new tech 6700 cards" then yes that would be false advertising. However they are pretty open about it.
Heck even before the release of of 6800 cards they said we will not be replacing 5700 cards but continue to support them as the cards below 6800 ones. However a 5700 does not sound right behind a 6800 card since you have 5800 5900 as well. So what do you do to let users know the position? Call it a 6700 and be open about it.
The thing that annoyed enthusiasts about Nvidia, is that they weren't so open about this to consumers AND it was sold to enthusiasts as a new card with better features. Totally different in my eyes.
