i7 980x quad SLI, need help desigining the set-up.

Hello everyone,

It's been around a week of looking into the forums here and there, but I dont seem to get a clear idea of how to turn my current air system into a watercooled one, so I was hoping for any help any of you experienced watercoolers could give me, as I am getting lost...

The rig consists of:

Coolermaster HAF X
i7 980x
EVGA X58 Classified 4-Way SL
4x GTX 580 in SLI (quad SLI)
Silverstone Strider 1500

The parts I was thinking on using were:

CPU: Swiftech Apogee XT Extreme Performance
MOBO: EK Water Blocks EK-FB EVGA Classified 4-SLI - Acetal+Nickel
GPU's: EK Water Blocks EK-FC580 GTX - Acetal

I was thinking on getting a MO-RA3 9x140 to cool the whole loop, but I dont know if this would be enough considering the extreme heat that would come from OC the whole system (not to the extreme but to some extent), also do I need 1 or more pumps for this rad ? 1 or more reservoirs ? I was thinking on the Noiseblocker NB-BlackSilentPRO PK2 ( 140x140x25mm ) fans to cool the radiator.

Also what would be the best order in the loop ? I have been looking into some posts but I cant get a clear view of how to do this monster set up, it is kinda overwhelming me.

Any idea on what connections would be best to connect the SLI cards waterblocks ? any ideal tube sizing for such a gigantic heat generating loop ? and fittings ?

Thank you so much for the help guys.

Are you planning to over clock this at all? If so, how far are you going to go? Because if you're not going to overclock much, I would not get water cooling.

wow... Thats alot of stuff to watercool.. I would just buy a water chiller for the cpu and make 1 loop for the gpus..

you're picking the wrong case if you want to watercool. Take a look at the mountain mods ascension, u2ufo, or little devil's v8. Even a 800d would be better. A single loop will work. The order doesn't really matter except the res should be before the pump.

To be honest I dont like the mountain mods at all, I chose the HAF X I like that kind of look, the 800D looked so boring and plain, but if it is better I will reconsider.

I am planning to overclock the whole system yes, I would go as far as it is stable for a 24/7, so not going hardcore, but I want to squeeze more from the system.

I thought of that way at first, but if I can run it all through the MO-RA3 that would be great, besides I dont mind having the radiator outside the case.

Even though you don't like Mountainmods, I think you should still consider it. Water cooling components can take up a ton of space, especially for the amount of hardware you're trying to cool.

Say the 800D. Great case for water cooling, but it's only got space for a 140 rad and a 360 rad without modding. So depending on if you care for noise or not, that will probably not be enough. And that's just the radiators, you've gotta find space to fit (and hide, if you care about appearance) the pump and reservoir, as well as all the fan wires that will probably be hooked up to a front panel fan controller.

With an Ascension or Extended Ascension, you could fit the MORA inside the case tongue.gif
