Computer shuts down?

Thread Starter
Hello forum,

Today my I5 2500k and Asus P8P67 PRO has just came in, after I set it up the computer shuts itself down within 5-30 seconds after I turn it on.

My previous setup up was Q8200 with an asus board.

I have a Cosair TX550w could it be the problem? I remeber someone in this forum powered up a gtx 470 with the same cpu and mobo.

I tried to boot it up with my old xfx 5770 and same thing still happends.

I'm using a stock CPU fan, could it be the CPU overheating?

My system is below.
Thanks for the help guys.

You definatley plugged the HSF header into the MB as it could be the thermal protection kicking in.

Powersupply is too weak.

550W? seriously?!? to power a 2500k AND a 570?!?!

Invest in a 850W or better.

I don't think Corsair made a 550TX. I think you mean VX?

Anyways, it could be that the board was DOA, PSU isn't working (if you have a multimeter, check the voltages), and/or you put the RAM in the wrong slots (A2/B2 if you're using 2 modules).

@t0adphr0g, I hope you realize that his CPU uses less power than 1366. Not to mention that the GTX 570 is equivalent to a 470 in terms of power consumption. So a 550w should be plenty for his build.

I'm 100% sure the PSU is working properly because I have been using it in my previous build.

The memory is placed in A2 B2 (double check)

I managed to get into bios once, and the CPU is over 80C
and all memory showed up properly.

So it is the cooler after all....(damn intel cooler...)

Check the 8-pin CPU power, see if it's plugged in correctly.
