Monitor dying?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, just yesterday I notice the brightness of my monitor screen seems to be getting dimmer. Like its not as bright as it was before. I have tried upping the brightness on the monitor but that doesn't help. Does that mean I have to buy a new monitor?

It may if you can't stand the dimness. If you want to get technical it means that your CCFL bulb is burning out. If your feeling really intrepid you could try to replace it yourself. I did it once on a laptop but it was a HUGE pita. Besides if you fixed it you wouldn't have a reason to upgrade!

Ugh I was afraid of that. Well if worst comes to worst I do have a spare monitor just incase. And about replacing the bulb, whats the pricing on those things and where could I buy them from?

Here's a sight that seems to sell some.
http://www.lcdparts.net/CCFL1.aspx

Googling "CCFL backlights" or "CCFL bulb" will usually turn up results. You'll need to ensure that its compatible with your monitor so including a model number in the search might turn up some good results. Bulbs are usually inexepensive <$20 in most cases I think.

Aight man thanks, I definately need to look into this soon. I don't want to degrade back to a 15 inch monitor. Nor do I have the cash to get a new monitor.
