Thread Starter
Update! After dedicating 11/12 threads the PPD jumped to around 55,000!
For experimentation sake I then killed the GPU clients and did all 12 threads, at that point the PPD went up to 58,000. Thanks to all those who helped

I'm in the same boat Klue. I just finished getting my i7 970 clocked to 4.2 with 1600mhz ram. Im not folding on the gpu right now and I'm getting 61351ppd and 21:35 tpf. I'm running a 201 block for now and I think thats whats limiting my top clock though so I'm going to try and upgrade my ram to run a higher multi and ram ratio. Let me know what you get too once you get stable and what your settings are to give me an idea where I stand!

What voltages are you guys using to break 4Ghz? I couldnt get it 4Ghz stable, but I guess I was using too little voltage. I top out at 55k ppd at 4Ghz. I would love to oc more and get more ppd.

I have to run at 1.375 to get a folding stable 4.3Ghz on both of my 980X machines so my guess is you will need to be somewhere in that neighborhood

Yeah I'm at 1.350 set in bios and riding a little higher then that in real life and it gets me 4.2 easy. I'v had it up to 4.8 with voltages under 1.42 (real life) but I'm having issues with my ram I think. I'm running a 201 block with a 21X multi but I'm having issues pushing my multi up higher with the block so high (using 2:8 for 1600mhz ram) so I think it will help if I move to some 2000Mhz ram and then I can move to 2:10 with a 180Mhz block and get a 4.5ghz hopefully. Its just an idea that I'm thinking about and between slow(ish) ram and running 6X2gb sticks (I know its a major slowdown (Having a major vdimm drop when prime starts up) and way harder to overclock) I know I can really push the speed of this bad boy up... Just curious, ppl with 980X's, What is with the tendencies to run low blocks and just work the multi to raise speeds? I keep seeing lots of guys run 133X whatever to get their final clock speeds (avg 4.2ghz) and they all seem to be running around 1.4-1.42 to get that speed. I'm not sure if its a limit to Gulftown chips or if I am mistaken with my assessment but I'm having a hard time finding the info I need to do the OC job this chip deserves. I just want more PPD!!!!! (goal is top 20 within 2 weeks)

Add the # of threads you want to use after the SMP flag. So if you wanted to run it on 11 threads, your SMP flag would be -SMP 11.

From the testing I have done with my 2 980X's they pretty much hit there limit at around 4.4Ghz at 1.39v it does not matter what the BCLK is up to around 204 after that it is hard to get them stable. 1.45v or grater. I do not think any of the socket 1333 i7's like anything above 204 BCLK and I have tested with 2000Mhz memory running it at 1700Mhz (way undreclocked) and it does not matter. The best I have been able to do with the 980X is 4.52Ghz 133 X 34, 1.46v 27\\7 folding stable but I am not comfortable running with that much voltage.
