What are you numbers for getting 4.37Ghz if you don't mind me asking? And also just curious what you are getting for ppd at that point as well?

146 X 30 which shows as 145.9 X 30 on CPUz and I get 65,000+ PPD on a 6900

Number of Frames Observed: 300

Min. Time / Frame : 00:19:55 - 69,288.6 PPD
Avg. Time / Frame : 00:20:40 - 65,551.3 PPD

So what has the biggest impact on PPD? From some experimental testing it appears to be ram frequency. I can't really go above 4.2 without putting a lot of voltage through it so any tips on how to optimize PPD?

The testing I have done shows that ram timings make more difference than ram speed. The 2000Mhz ram I have runs at 2000 8-8-8-24-88-2N but I have found that if I lower it to 1744Mhz 7-7-7-24-72-1N it will drop about 30sec off frame times on a 6900 WU. My other machine has 1800Mhz memory in it that runs at 8-8-8-24-88-2N and if I drop it to 1744Mhz 7-8-7-24-74-1N it will drop about 20sec off frame times. It takes allot of testing to figure out you best speed and timings but in the long run it is worth it.

i doubt timings have any effect on ppd... it seems pretty optimized to me honestly... a 4.4ghz 970 gets 52k so you're ppd is normal... not sure what else you can do besides not using the computer while folding

your gtx580 #'s are nice, what's the core clock?

I get 55k with my 970 @ 4Ghz, but I am not gpu folding. GPU3 killed my ppd so I swapped my 9800GX2 in this rig.

Actually a 980X at 4.4 gets between 68,000 and 70,000 with memory at 1775Mhz 7-7-7-24-72-1N so maybe you need to re think your statement. Your 52k is only 16,000 to 18,000 PPD less than what you could get.

Yeah I don't do GPU folding on my i7 970 rig. It just kills the ppd so I have loaded my other mobo's with GPU's to optimize my ppd. Hey gramps, I just got a 6 gig G Skills 1600Mhz 6-8-6-20 t2 pack of ram that I will toss in sometime this week to see what effect that has on my 970 frame rate. I think it will really help being that its so much faster then my 12 gigs (6X2gb) 9-9-9-27 t2 Kingston that I have right now. After I get some numbers with the new ram then I will try and see if I can get my clocks a bit higher as well. If I can get between 68,000 and 70,000 ppd then I will be happy.... Will someone talk me out of getting a i7 920 rig for $650 please? I'm just sooo addicted!!!
