not that i doubt you, but how about some HFM screenshots of 1600mhz vs 2000mhz ram, or something like that
post #32 of 49
I doubt that you don't doubt I'm Working on that as we speak but it will take a week or so because BigAdv take so long to run. I will swap out the ram on Thursday or Friday I think and then post my findings. I hope I get more ppd because this ram just cost me $100.
I'm only going to do the timing difference though not the clock difference. Maybe Gramps would take care of that for us?

lol honestly i wish it was true, then i'd upgrade the RAM in my bigadv rigs

but i've read from many places that timings dont have an affect on PPD, personally i've only tried 1600 CL7 vs CL9 and there was no difference at all

maybe speeds matter a bit but not timings (?)

You have read from many places that do not know. Over at the Stanford folding forum in the beta section it has been discussed many times and it has been shown that timings and speed both make a difference. Timings more so than speed. Below is a screen shot taken a few minutes ago the highlighted line is the rig I am typing this response on and the screen shot is pretty self explanatory. It shows I am currently running at 4.4Ghz getting 65,000PPD while it is running Boink in the background on a 4870X2 and cruising the Internet. Now try the same settings on your rig with your memory and see what you get. My normal frame times are posted below for when I am not cruising the Internet. The top one is the rig pictured running 7-8-7-24-72-1N the bottom one is my other 980X rig running Boink in the background on a 3870X2 with memory timings 7-7-7-24-72-1T all other settings and motherboards are the exact same. As you can see just a slight difference in timings makes a 1000 PPD difference in AVG frame times. Perhaps you should do a little more research.

Well we will settle it once and for all soon. I just changed my settings from 9-9-9-24-1T to 7-7-7-24-1T. I have been getting ~50k from my 970 up to now. We will see if it makes a big difference.

I am actually surprised. I am now at 53k+. The difference in timings has made atleast a 2000ppd change. This is not conclusive as it has only been a couple hours but I feel confident that timings make a big difference if you make as large of a change as I did.

Thread Starter
Well I just did the opposite, I upped my memory 100+ MHz in speed by lowering the multiplier to 21, My timings were 7-7-7-18-88 and now there 8-8-8-24-88. I'll post back with the results in a bit.

Good to see that it increased your PPD. I'll have to try it out whenever I OC my rig. Just curious, how many threads are you using?
