Vista keeps refusing to detect 2TB drive?

Thread Starter
I installed a 2TB drive to my friend's computer yesterday, and after a minor hiccup it was working perfectly (forgot to plug it into the motherboard, silly me) but this morning it suddenly disappeared from Windows. He said he put it in hibernate when he went to sleep, but didn't shut the computer down completely. His 300GB boot drive works fine, just the 2TB doesn't show up.

When I opened Disk Management, it showed as there, but not initialized. I initialized, and it showed up as "Unallocated space" when that finished. He already put about 100GB of his art stuff on there to free up space on the boot drive, and I'd rather not force him to lose it. Presumably, since the hard drive is reading as unallocated, I'd have to format it to have it work. Is there a way to restore it? Should I pull the hard drive and see if I can get data off it onto my hard drive? Or does it seem to be completely gone?

Is it a new HDD?

Generally for 2TB+ you have to create the partition table using GPT & not MBR.

If you don't have any data on it then go to disk management & reinitialize the disk and create it as GPT.
