How to fix CPU after failed BSEL mod? LGA 775

Thread Starter
So, I have an old e6300 that i tried to take from 1066 mhz to 1333 mhz. However, my mobo wouldn't take a BSEL'd CPU, apparently (gave me the beep code for bad cpu). I took off the copper tape, tried it up again....bad cpu beep code again I examined it closely, and it looked like there was a little residue between two pins. I used 91% alcohol and a microfiber towel to get it off. Try it again, beep code -_- any suggestions as to what i should try next, before i run out of thermal paste? >_>

I did this with a Q6600, but only by using the tape one pin trick, which makes it ALOT more hassle free. You have to make sure your motherboard supports 1333 FSB, which you apparently didn't do. Either you taped the wrong pins, or you need to scrape off that copper residue VERY carefully.

Nah, it just won't take BSEL'd chips. I also tried it with another chip that I had (took from 800 to 1066) and it gave the same beep code. And I definitely taped the right pins.
:-/ scrape? Sounds scary, but I guess i'll keep trying.

What motherboard are you talking about anyway? I did my BSEL mod on a stock Intel DG35EC and it still works perfectly to this day.

shotty HP prebuilt stock mobo. chipset doesn't support setFSB or anything else that changes the FSB, so i was probably being a little too optimistic, thinking that a BSEL mod would work.
