id software games have always run in linux easy as cake

doom, doom2, heretic, hexen, quake, quake2, quake3, quake4, doom3, quakelive

i believe the unreal games all ran native in linux as well

as far as mp goes, you cant beat unreal series, quake series, or doom series

and ive seen just about every game under the sun thats popular running in wine even if idc to do it myself, i know its possible
Kinda meh now...

Yeah, they really only focus on the popular games anyways... Well, ones that have reasonable DRM. I still can't believe Bioshock2 chose the DRM it did, it was awful. lol It was actually easier to pirate than it was for some to install, how ironic.

Wine is kind of hit or miss. Some games work well with it, some don't.

The problem with gaming on Linux is that MS owns DirectX, and I doubt they're going to give it away to Linux. If more studios used OpenGL, more games would work natively in Linux. Until then, you can try to get them to work through Wine, or just use Windows.

The only thing Windows has going for it is application support, and that's simply due to their monopoly and not a feature of the actual operating system.

And a bunch of other things that I don't feel like listing. As far as the original OP's question goes, I think all games will be running ONLY on Linux 25 years from now.

Why? Because no one (well, maybe Overclock.net members) will own a computer. Everything will simply be done on the cloud. Computers will become appliances, in that they are easily interchangeable. Drop your laptop? Buy a new one and login to the cloud to instantly have all your stuff back. They won't even have HDs, as all of the data will be stored on the cloud.

And what will be running all of these systems? Linux of course.

Google OS is a perfect example of this, as is IOS. That's where the future lies. (Well, IOS is BSD but you get the point).
The cloud? Maybe if they gave us higher internet speeds for less money like in Japan. I'm not downloading/uploading all my stuff until I can do it as fast as on my PC and you can forget about privacy with the cloud.

In 25 years the internet will be 100% wireless with data transfer speeds of 100+ MB/s each way. And that's a low end estimate.

Also, do you know what encryption is?

i dont think you have a solid understanding of physical limitations of networking hardware...

i could see something like internet hotspots having that... buuuuuuut not wide spread EVER... just compare the isp's of europe and north america, the north american countries are much larger and more spread out so the isp's arent nearly as good and have a very hard time upgrading and keeping up with the solid speed and quality obtained by tons of smaller european countries being tighter together

the technology might be possible in time, but i dont believe it will be practical even within 25 years

Let's not forget non-Western countries where network infrastructure is primitive at best, and improving at a snail's pace.
