that would fail epicly for faster games cant imagine client to server delay with server to server delay... imagine playing an fps online, ouch

it would have its place though but it wont all out replace client installs because a client install will just flat out perform better... plus youd need a stable fast internet connection just to play single player and stuff... and if you are dropping packets to the server, wonder how bad that would hurt the game performance cause it would probably be dropping engine stuff which would suck for most games
Kinda meh now...

We will never see good gaming support on linux. Why bother making a game to run on a platform which has such a small user base?

At any rate pc gaming has deteriorated into a console port farce. It's blatantly obvious in the majority of cases that you are playing a console game with a keyboard and mouse. On top of that, if you love online fps action like me, there are hackers everywhere. The problem is so bad that if you ever dare to do well in a match you will automatically be accused of hacking.

I'm even selling my sig rig it's so bad. Fps on an xbox controller isn't as easy as pc but at least I know my opponents are people and not aim bots.

And yes I'm sure internet will get much faster yet but you're overlooking the fact that games will also get much larger as well. Good luck finding a new release which can install off a cd, and soon blue ray will be the standard.

Someone swyped my idea.

I doubt games will ship on any kind of discs in the near future. We are moving to digital distribution for all types of media.

quite sad that you think that maybe i just have a very positive view of pc gaming because i grew up on id software games... which still have active multiplayer communities and strong anti cheating systems... and native support on linux

whats the saying... they dont make em like they used to?

hoping brink and rage (both using idtech5 engine i believe) coming out this year will both still have native linux support, brink is by splashdamage who made wolfenstein: enemy territory and rage is being made by idsoftware themselves, BUT they still have yet to even release the source code for the idtech4 engine and things arent lookin good for community support since they were bought out by zenimax

Retail sales make massive profits from huge markups, they won't be going anywhere soon.

Just like we have vast alternatives to oil being a fuel... Yet apparently there's a huge money market in it. =P
