6950 bios flash is DAMAGING! - Page 3

It's as simple as this:
1. Your card is flashed and stable and working fine
2. Unstable and can't work fine
There is no #3, it's all just fanboy talk.

I can say my card was unstable with the 6970 flash then still unstable when flashed back to 6950 I'm thinking it was the bios though not the card because when I use the 2nd bios I have no problems.

My instability was random freezing in windows while at idle. Did fine in benchmarks and games though.

You need to completely uninstall the drivers once you reflash the card, it will cause issues.
Heat is the major problem here.

Does anyone else know that flashing a 6950 to a 6970 bios instead of just a modded 6950 bios can and will damage the card due to voltages? Turns out the 6970 bios tries to run the ram at the wrong voltage and eventually will kill the card. Hope I'm not just re stating something already old news, but I'm posting just in case.

Ah ok thanks didn't realize that I have a custom profile for my fan and had been monitoring my temps and everything has been fine there but I will reinstall the drivers when I get home.

If that has been my only issue should the card run fine with the 6970 flash?

6950 might artifact on 6970 bios at 6970 clocks. Id just flash it and first test the card at 6950 clocks. Test it rigorously with games like metro 2033 maxed out, furmark alone will not indicate perfect stability. Just play all your games for some time that are quite stressing without VSYNC.

If it does not fail, ramp it up to stock 6970 clocks and repeat the process. If no artifacts or problems, OC it beyond.
Make sure to keep an eye for temperatures, just set the fan to 50% when testing to be safe.

Reinstall the driver once you flash it with 6970 BIOS. Use driver sweeper to remove all driver traces left behind by the uninstaller before installing drivers.
