Frequency range does not matter. Any headphone can produce most of the sound spectrum at any low decibel. What matters is how loud can they go at those frequencies without distortion. Just because one has 16-28kHz does not mean they'll produce "clear sound" even at 60-18kHz at 80 dB.

Do you have access to any other headphones besides those?

I was asking if you were open to others than just those 2?

Both of those might be alright for you. The Roccat being the better of the two by the "sounds" of things. But both are sheer garbage compared to what else is in stores. You can easily take 2 well designed drivers and produce better surround sound with the x-fi chip then 4 or 3 mediocre drivers on an angle.

5.1 headphones are a gimmick.

They have horrible audio quality, and the sound positioning is worse than on some other STEREO headphones. Please choose a proper kit of headphones. 5.1 headphones still just have 2 CUPS on your ears. The sounds from the other cup can't reach your other ear. Thus, the surrounds sound doesn't work. The drivers should be at least 1m away from you.

Please, look for better headphones. 5.1 ones are mediocre, and VERY VERY VERY VERY overpriced.

It is not a gimmick. They do in fact mimic surround sound.

But I agree with what you said. Phones that "claim" 5.1 surround sound does not produce that well of sound to begin with. 40mm drivers are not all that impressive when they focus on bass frequencies. OP should grab himself some high quality cans and just use Dolby digital effects or whatever X-Fi has (can't remember the name; css3d or something) if he want's that surround sound effect.
