Dead Space - Problem

Thread Starter
So I've had Dead Space for a while, got it on sale a month or so ago for a couple bucks. I decided to play it tonight for the first time, and I already ran into my first problem.

When I first get that plasma gun, and I hear the guy screaming on the other side of the door, something really stupid happens. I shoot the door open by disabling the power or whatever, and it opens and he's dead. Here's the kicker; I can't walk through the doorway. It's as if there is an invisible wall blocking me, and all the guy does is walk into nothingness. I've tried everything to get through the damn door and nothing works. I checked my map and it's telling me I need to go that way, but I can't... the invisible wall of doom is blocking my progress, and it's only level 1. frown.gif

Any suggestions?

Yes. You're going to think I'm crazy for this:

Download Fraps. Make sure you have it set up to press one of the function keys to start recording. Now, when you get into the first room with the plasma cutter, once you grab the cutter, immediately start recording video. It will force your framerate to about 28fps. For some reason this fixes the glitch. Once you're through the door, stop recording, and enjoy the rest of the game.

You have to time it right, or Fraps stops recording automatically.

Ugh thank you, I hope this works. The game looks fantastic so it would be a shame to have this one glitch prevent a playthrough. :/

I got so fed up with that same glitch that I just bought the game for PS3. Then, once I fixed it with the method I just posted about, I was pissed.

Yeah, I was close to just removing the game. That or reinstalling to see if it fixed the glitch. I'm really surprised there isn't an official fix for such a gamebreaking flaw...

It's a damn good thing I got it for 5 bucks, otherwise I'd be breathing fire at this point.

this games been nothing but trouble. real cheap on steam now so I bought. on startup, incorrect resolution detection (on brand new laptop) and laggy mouse. 20 mins to find solution and fix. then when the game first starts I had an x-axis issue where I couldn't play because the camera was in a mad spin. took forever to test fixes because there's no "skip scene" key and had to sit thru the intro movie over and over. turns out it was my logitech g13 causing the issue (which latest divers don't work/different story).
basically spent 2 hours fixing the g13 and this poor poor poor excuse of a port so lost interest in playing.

will play soon though. small prices to pay for a quality game. gonna plug in the ps controller tomorrow and use that to play :-)

I think the problems have to do with high framerates. I get a ridiculous 300fps average in this game... and any time I turn fraps on and force it down to 28 fps, all of the strange anomalies stop.

300fps = Physics gets all weird, bodies bounce around and spin around at ludicrous speeds, movement is MUCH slower with the mouse, when I strafe the character freaks out and sort of... jumps? in place

28 fps = Physics is nice and slow like it should be, bodies stay put when they die instead of bouncing all over, movement is MUCH faster with the mouse, strafing doesn't cause animation glitches

So something must be wrong with the PC vs. a console. Bad port?
