5~10 seconds if you count just windows 7 boot. If you count from power off to fully operational desktop,(with me removing my password option and the system going straight through) about 17 seconds. My post is almost as long, or longer than the win7 boot itself. Corsair F40 SSD, gets a windows performance rating of 6.9.

I have a feeling that I probably won't. I mean, I don't use additional applications like Anti-Virus, Windows Defender or any type of anti-malware apps. I also don't use Steam or any instant messengers. When I go to shut down (or reboot), I close everything first out of pure habit. So when I do that, all that's left are the 31 processes which are my core Windows processes plus the three little services that are related to my GTX 470.

So I imagine that many people have to wait for many things to close, such as some sort of anti-malware program, maybe Windows Defender, maybe Windows Firewall, perhaps Steam, some instant messenger, and maybe something else. But for me, I almost have nothing.

However, I am still baffled because before I do any tweaking at all, Windows 7 takes like 10-20 seconds to shut down. lol Argh. Worse yet is I perform all of my Services.msc tweaks in one fell swoop.

From the second i enter my password and tell it it says "Starting windows" to the second that windows i visible I would say ~10s. But the time it takes to actually load all my startup processes is probably another 20s. I chose 16-20 since windows is responsive and usable during this time. Ill probably time it tomorrow... This is week old install of win7 on my SS'ed (41gb) RAID 0 1TB F3's with zero tweaking. Having almost as much fun now playing with my RAID as i did overclocking the little bugger to begin with. Couldnt imagine what a difference an SSD would make.

Yeah my machine doesn't really get turned off either. 55 seconds for a total restart time doesn't seem too bad in my opinion though, so I'm not going to complain too much about it

Just to make it clear for my scenario.
I don't see it as having anything to do with the OS, at all.

My PC sits in a "powered off" state, for the roughly ~10 seconds or so prior to initiating its POST, after executing a restart.
The shutdown procedure itself is only about ~4-5 seconds, if that.

Well, I used a stopwatch and with my 120GB X25-M I get 16.4 seconds from 'Starting Windows' to desktop. I'd like to know how to get 5.25 seconds lol. Raid 0?

I get almost the exact same time with my X25-M 80gb.

all the 5-10 second boots are probably with C300's.

Raid0 wouldn't help much as it doesn't improve random 4k reads.
(Or does it? I don't know much about raid)
