Piracy - Page 3

Pirated games are my demo. More and more games don't come with a demo and I really not rather have to write them (developers/game company) when I could be just playing the game.

During the steam sale I don't think I pirated any of the games but instead just went ahead and bought them since they had pretty good deals on most of them. I occasionally buy a game at full price but only if I know it will be worth it, unfortunately I did buy APB last year and that game went under and I wasted $60

Most likely, yes. I do not intend to buy either of them unless they are $10 or so.

SC1 deluxe pack is available at Walmart for 19.99, but it does not have as good as graphics as SC2
Fair enough. They haven't said how much it's going to cost. But in my own opinion, it's still paying extra for what should be a full game (and what used to be considered a full game). When comparing it to SC1, I'd look at the price on release (and adjusted for inflation now), and I don't know what that was. And yes SC2 has better graphics, but should that be reason to justify paying possibly 3 times more? What if they would have done this with SC1? To me, it just doesn't seem right to split what should be a complete game into three, and charge for each. And I can't imagine that the two expansions will retail for anything less than $20. Blizzard wants to make as much money as possible, and they know that they have a game that people will pay a good chunk of money for.

And Sharp, why would you admit to piracy? Regardless of what you consider a pirated game, it's still illegal and the company sure wouldn't care what you think it is. I like the suggestion given in the video; rather than pirating [for a demo], send a letter to the developer about how you want a demo for the game. They get enough of these and they'll realize that maybe there's enough demand for one.

I admit it because I don't care if anyone knows. I still buy more games then a lot of people, I just like to educate myself on the games before purchasing it.

Actually looking at buying shogun 2 TW if steam ever gets the limited edition up. If I pirate something and enjoy it enough I WILL purchase it, this had led me to purchase a lot of games I wouldn't have considered otherwise so to me this doesn't hurt any company but can only profit them. I played two worlds 2 a while ago and I am still waiting for that to come out because it was such a good game that I want to buy it.

Only thing I object to is thew hole oh you have this luxury item, you should have the money to buy games. I built my pc when I had the money to do such a thing, now I'm scraping the bottom of the money jar.
Then perhaps you should've had the foresight to know it's gotta rain sometime. The lack of self control of some people on this site is staggering.

Me too. Especially multiplayer games .

But game developers should really consider selling Single Player and Multi Player at a different price. Maybe $20 for single player and $40 for multi player ? The reason why people go into piracy because , most pirates are not a fan of Multiplayer, and take MW2 for example, 59.99USD , who would wanna spend 59.99 on something they can beat not more then a day? Hence they pirate it, complete the campaign and forget about it, but if they happen to like the game and wanna try multi player, then they will purchase a legit copy. When i purchase games on steam, i only ended up installing the MP and i didnt even tough Single player. Thats a waste. If given the chance, id rather sell it at $10 to someone who really needs it.

I agree that games are overpriced. The only time people will start buying is when theres a steam sale.. i dont see any reason why game developers must sell Single player games at $50. Unless they sell a really good SP with a very long story line and free expension packs (like Fear1 + Fear 2 + all expension packs / Crysis 1 + 2 ) then maybe its justifiable.

Piracy laws are, by and large, completely unenforceable on the individual level. He's far more likely to be struck by lightning than to suffer any harmful consequences from downloading a few games.

Most game publishers, as evidenced by their stance on demos, DRM, and pricing, are so out of touch and oblivious that their opinion on the matter is as irrelevant as any.
