good ones will run that on air..an E8500 or E8600 will get you closer to 4.8-5ghz

More realistic for the E8400 is 4.0-4.2 with a good air cooler.

4.5 stable is elusive and IMO you need a lucky mobo to get it stable. I've got a very low-vid E8400 and a very stable 750i, it took ALOT of tweaking to hit 4.5 stable enough to run benchmarks, and it was never stable in prime or OCCT for very long. If you can hit 4.2, you won't miss 4.5 anyway.

The Q9550 is not much more expensive on ebay, but I don't know how that works for you in your location. Quad vs dual? Depends on what games you specifically play.

well -> 750/780i sucks for clocking high FSB period..and even crap VID 8400's will run 4.2 for stable use..especially on this much more tunable DFI that loves 550+ FSB. The OP has 1x of the best mobo's for clocking E8xxx's for stupid-high FSB clocks - hands down.

I owned 1x for benching- pretty pleased
Pizzaman owns 1x for benching his 'crap' E8400 @ +5ghz on water
El Gappo owns 1x [it might even be the only Intel rig he has too]

I guess my point is more along the lines of- mate an E8xxx with that mobo..and do your darndest to keep it cool-> you wouldnt be dissapointed.
