I want a big desk

Thread Starter
I need it to be 2metres long and at least 70cm's in depth.
I live in Australia and can't find anywhere that has what I want.

The legs must be planks, not just sticks.. eg:
http://s7d5.scene7.com/is/image/Stap...5157_sc7?$sku$

A similar design to the picture above would be best.

Can anyone suggest a carpenter or shop in which I can purchase what I want, I have tried Ikea, office works and other stores like that.

Help is very much appreciated ^_^

They have Ikea in Australia now? That's awesome. I'm moving to Australia soon and my Dad bought me this huge Oak desk, check it out:

*Gmail not working at the moment, I'll update soon*

But I did find one on eBay for you: Wooden Timber Desk

How's that? Looks pretty neat to me.

how large should it be ???
years ago i bough a plain and simple Black but BIG desk from Ikea and I'm currently using it (even if it's bending a bit right now); you can see it in this post http://www.overclock.net/10890571-post11646.html

unofrunatly I'm not able to find it on ikea's site, it seems like they doesn't make it anymore, they do only cheap desks with plastic legs

That is good, but the shelves will make it hard for me. I want this giant desk so I can PC Game, but still have enough space for someone to sit next to me and also do something, like game or study, etc.

2metres, your desk is good but too small.

Oh yeah, and no corner solutions stuff.
I just want a massive desk ^_^

Perhaps i could contact a carpenter to help me out

Ah, yeah, I get what you mean.

Well, I'm still in England, and I made this "desk" from scratch. If you are going to be keeping your system in the same place for a long time, here's what I recommend doing:

Go to a hardware store like Bunnings or whatever's near you. Look for some timber (in my case I chose kitchen worktop as it was large enough for what I wanted). You can get any size you want. It'll cost you around $30-40. Also purchase 2 height-adjustable metal legs

Get home, use a jigsaw to cut it down to the size you want. Sandpaper the edges. Use the excess wood you have cut off to make some supports that you can screw to the wall. Rest the desk on the supports, adjust the legs' heights to the size you want. You can attach it to the floor and voila, you have a desk for like $50.

Here's a picture of mine: http://postimage.org/image/1iucimbqc/ - Me and a friend have had numerous nights where he brings his PC and we play games together.

Ignore the missing piece off the end, I had to get another one as I ripped it off whilst moving my guitar amp, hehe.

The above plan fails a little if your desk isn't going to be facing a wall, though.

I recommend building your own. Hardware stores usually cut counters in to various sizes and shapes. Buy the size you want, then go over at Ikea's and buy the kinda leg feet you want

I think I could get all the pieces from bunnings.
Don't you think its strange though, that a 2metre long desk is so rare?

I built mine

You could ask for one to be built? I'm sure there's one at Harvey Norman or Ikea. I can't imagine there not being one.

In Ikea they don't have that long actual computer desks, but IIRC the trick is to buy a kitchen countertop made of wood and buy the legs for it. That way you can get a lot longer desk.

Just buy a folding table. Something like this. They make great desks, and without the desk price. I guess the legs are kind of sticks though...

but there's really no point in buying an actual desk, unless you want things like shelves and pull-out keyboard trays, which I personally despise. A folding table should be much cheaper.
