How to limit your frames per second for every game?

Thread Starter
Title explains. Besides, I do not wanna use V sync since it sucks and it does not do what I wany. Actually, what I want is: I do not wanna see 30 frames per second, but I want my pc to excactly produce 30 frames per second. Why? Because I think it takes longer to get a pc overheated if it produces 30 fps rather then 60 for instance. My gpu has overheat failures. Help please!

if you gpu is overheating, limiting the FPS isn't going to change that, you need to RMA your GPU.

But it overheats later I guess?

Do a search (google) on FPS Limiter and FrameRate Limiter.

I know that software is out there, but the method to obtain it may be less than kosher and against OCN's TOS.

Lol, he doesn't want to set a maximum framerate, he wants to set a minimum framerate.

Unfortunately that's impossible. You just have to upgrade your PC. I highly recommend upgrading graphics card, that 3870 is bottlenecking your E8400 to no end.

It is possible that it could help, but you are right that the card should be sent in for a replacement if it is still under warranty.

in some games you can limit fps in the dev console (hit `) any quake3 engine game it's pretty easy to do, I bet you can do it in source games too but I don't know those commands.

are you controlling the fan speed on your card? blow the dust bunnies out of it and try again!

new TIM / RMA would be my primary choice, but limiting FPS will reduce heat if it actually forces the GPU to only render 30 frames per second instead of say 80-100.

It will reduce the load on the card itself and thus less heat... Easiest way is definitely vsync, even though you say you do not want to use it. I would say its pretty good these days if you can guarantee you have enough HP to stay above your refresh rate.
