XFX 8800GT vs Palit GTS250

post #1 of 15

1680x1050

which is the better performing card at this resolution?
the 512mb 8800GT alpha dog is over-clocked to the brim.
and performed amazing on my old 1440x900 monitor.
But can it out perform a GTS250 1GB at the resolution at the top?

The GTS 250 will beat the 8800 GT, especially at 1680x1050

It depends on the game. Clock for clock there won't be much difference but you might get more of an overclock out of the GTS 250. The differences between the two are very small. The GTS 250 is G92b (55nm) and has 12 more shaders and 512MB more memory. Here's a review, it only shows the 9800GT at stock though. Most of the time you see ~20% difference, I'm betting that's mostly due to the differences in clocks. Overclocking is nearly proportionate to performance and the GTS 250 has a 20% clock increase over the 8800GT. 600/1500/900 vs 738/1836/1100

8800GT=9800GT and GTS250=9800GTX+.

GTS 250 would be a tad faster than the 8800GT IMO. But considering 1gig on GTS250, it'll do way better at higher resolutions.
