So there's like 15 different opinions here. According to the links to the official microsoft site links that have been posted, mainstream support actually ended in 2009.

So we need to clear this up. Do you, or do you not, have to pay for any further support? By which I mean the "extended" support. A couple people have said that you do. Anyone know for certain?
