D2D offers PC game Rentals

Thread Starter
Just went to check the D2D site to look at sales and noticed they have some PC game rentals. Right now I only saw 3 games listed for this.

-Silent Hill: Homecomming
-Divinity 2
-GRID

$5 for 5 hours of unlimited play. If you decide to buy, you get $5 off the purchase price.

Wonder if they will decide to offer more games or maybe get some newer games listed for rentals.

I'd consider it if they doubled the hours or if they only counted your game time instead.

5 hours for $5. . . No thank you. I would rather find a free demo. I wouldn’t want to waist $5 on a game that I might not even like.

It would be great if game companies start doing what makers of SC2 did. Include a free time trial for your friends, Or at least make a demo. I was able to save $60 by not buying SC2. I thought it sucked!

But then again they want people to buy it out of impulse.

Yeah, no way man. Basically, they're charging you for a demo, shrouded by the incentive of $5 off, when in fact that incentive is nothing more than a persuasive obligation, since you've already invested $5 bucks. I really hope this doesn't take flight....I can see demo's becoming a thing of the past should it occur,....as if demo's aren't readily available enough as it is.

Ya, but they know if they double the time on the rental, you will be able to beat almost any game in 10 hours and would not buy it. Heck, the way games are now, you could probably beat most of them in 5 hours even.

Bad thing is that most games comming out now (if they decide to rent more recent games) don't have demos. Xbox and PS3 get more demos than PC now it seems. At least if you decide to buy the game, you get the $5 you paid for the demo off the price and you don't have to start over playing. Beings you would have to download the whole game for the demo, you should be able to just continue on from where your last save was. And demos are usually short...probably about 20 minutes or so.

I'm not really interested in this "rental" system either, but maybe it's a start to something bigger. Would be nice to rent a PC game like a console game for around $3-$4/day.

Also, wasn't there aleady talk about some PC companied wanting to charge for demos?

It seems like a rough opening, but I do like the idea. So many new PC games decide not to include a demo (read: refuse to market themselves to me) so this would be a better way of getting to know something.
