Clonezilla.

I use it in a production environment for linux, solaris, winXP, Server 2003 and server 2008. I can clone from 1 to 120 (my max so far) systems off the same image in less than an hour total for all machines.

It is a very useful tool and free.

Clonezilla (and most other multicast based tools) can clone hundreds of systems at once (limited only by the number of network connections on the machine).

Like my previous post mentioned I have successfully cloned 120 systems at the same time and it took about an hour total including the HW setup.

For that many systems look into the DRBL project on sourceforge. Setup and install of the DRBL took a little extra time, but after the second or third time cloning drives it is now second nature.

Impressive. I could be wrong about the Ghost only doing 1 at a time thing, I've only ever used it once.

I understand that Ghost can do more than one at a time off the same image. If it is using multicast there is no reason it shouldn't. I have never tried though.

We are currently in the process of evaluating Acronis Snap Deploy 3.0, which is supposed to be able to do a similar thing as Clonezilla. One of our customers insists we use Acronis, so we will gladly mark up the licenses and charge them more.

I have had one issue when cloning windows server 2008. After the restore, windows sees the file system as corrupt and wants to run the repair tool upon boot. If you cancel out of it, let the system boot, then reboot after device discovery, it is fine.

When using the DRBL setup with linux, you can automagically customize each client with hostnames and IP addresses (and pretty much anything else) with very little intervention (none on the client, only minor setup on the DRBL or image server).

There is a way to do this on windows too, but I have not experimented with it.
