Can't change modes on Sony receiver.

Thread Starter
I have the Sony str-dh510 and I have an hdmi cable going from my XFX 5850 to the receiver. I have windows set to send 5.1 over the hdmi cable to the receiver, but my receiver is stuck on hall mode. When I press any button to change the modes, it doesn't do anything, it shows the mode I want in a light color kind of like its locked or something. So basically I'm stuck using this 2.1 sound for now.... Is there a reason why I can't change the modes? I would like my center, and rears to work.
Edit: 5.1 works fine when I'm playing a game or something, but I just want to be able to force my 2.1 games over all 5 speakers using the multi st mode.

On my sony receiver I can't change certain 5.1 signals either. Have you tried using an optical cable from your motherboard? Maybe then it will let you change the surround modes to multi stereo.
