Does anyone have experience with canon refurbished products? I've been thinking about buying a canon eos Ti2 for around 1k...How would this compare to the 40D or the XSI?

I've gotten a Refurb Canon camera before and it was pretty much brand new. Been 1+ year now and 1000 pictures later and works well. Although its a point and shoot

Plus tax & shipping add like $40 had it for about a week and the camara is great you will not notice it is refurb besides the box and 2 labels one on the lens and one under the camara that said it is refurbish. I am looking foward weather permit it to take it out side this weekend and take a few pic. You will not be disaponinted!

Canon's refurbished products are pretty great. I've ordered refurbished before with no issues. Usually it's a camera that simply needed a new shutter or was pulled from the factory floor for an adjustment. Your chances of getting a new camera is actually pretty good with a refurbished deal.

In terms of image quality, they're the same camera. However, their bodies are very different. The 40D has a bigger, more robust body with a thumb wheel in the back used for dedicated aperture control on manual settings, a 95% mag/95% coverage pentaprism viewfinder (the XSi has 85/95 pentamirror if I remember right), top information LCD, and (in my opinion) better ergonomics.

If you simply want a camera that takes good images, I'd go with the XSi. If you want better ergonomics as well and are willing to pay for it, go with the 40D. I personally would choose the 40D because after the jump from my old Rebel XTi to my current 50D, I can't go back to shooting a Rebel again. They just feel so small and cramped in my hands, and changing settings takes much too long for me without the second thumb wheel the 40D/50D has.

Totally agree with this. I'm using a T1i right now just to try out the video, but I can't wait on going back to the XXD series. It just feels so much better and a little more sturdier. Since they use magnesium allow bodies, with the exception of the 60D.

The click wheel is just awesome. Adjustments on the fly and easier to use IMO.
