I've read others say same thing that there is this high pitch whine coming from the MCP655 pump, its not loud but really annoyed me, i think i'm sensitive to high frequencies. It goes away a setting 2½-3. Pump is softmounted, same amount of noise if i hold it in hand or put it back in case.
I bought the EK D5 X-Top which did reduce some noise meanwhile increased performance. I've built a tunnel with Acousti Pack foam blocks with a fan blowing through it, now running pump at setting 4. Still with 8 x GT-AP15 fans at 5v, i find the pump is the loudest part in the computer but not at all annoying as before.

I had the 655-b and got the 655 so I could run it on 5. I returned it and put my 655-b back in (equal to 655 on 4 setting) because I saw zero improvement from the extra flow. I have CPU and GPU blocks, 360, and 120 Rads. Guess I had great flow already. Maybe if you had a bunch more blocks or rads causing restrictions the 4 to 5 speed helps. /shrug

Save the 30 bucks and get the 655-b IMO.

Oh, and like everyone else has said, dead silent, have to look at the res to see water moving to know it is working with my EK v2 top.
