Gtx 460 sli or single 570 (@1920x1080)

Thread Starter
As title suggests. I currently have a Palit 1GB 460 (Sonic). Should I get a 2nd 460 or upgrade to a single 570 and later on when i get more money a 2nd 570 (hopefully)
I play crysis, metro, cod, ffxiv, bf:bc2 and waiting on crysis 2. I want to play at highest settings.

Thanks

Two 460's would give you more performance but if you want to upgrade more in the future get a GTX 570 so you can SLI those later.

It is my opinion that having 1 powerful graphics card is better then having two mid range cards in SLI. Not all games support SLI, and some support it poorly. In those cases, a person with two 460s will only be using one of them, and they won't be getting the boost in performance that they are expecting. SLI can also introduce other issues that a single card might not have. For instance, I had been running SLI 8800GTS 512 for 3 years. I got more frames per second with the SLI system, but I also was more prone to stuttering and other issues that fps alone doesn't help with. In my case, I had started out with a single card, and upgraded to a second card for SLI down the road.

That being said, you already have a GTX 460, so a second one would be cheaper then jumping ship completely to a GTX 570. However, if you get a single GTX 460 now, then you are basically done, you can't get any more performance until you replace them. If you put the money down now for a single GTX 570, you could purchase a second one when the prices come down to prolong the life span before another major upgrade. It's a tough choice, but I would lean towards the single GTX 570.

^ when you have a sli you just configure sli as default...

GTX460SLI is much faster then a 570 but if you plan on upgrading later then a 570 will be a better choice!

I would get anther 460 and then just upgrade to a new series of cards when they come out it would be a better then getting anther 570 later... I mean selling the 460's and getting a GTX6XX or a HD7XXX

I was in the same boat about 2 weeks ago

I went with a second GTX 460 they are cheap like under 180 now and most games I play use SLI, so it's has been great!

I really think the GTX 460 will replace the old 8800 GTX everyone use to SLI in the past.

which games don't support SLI, I was thinking to do the same thing with my GTX 460

Im thinking bout getting another 570. Would it be overkill for 1920x1080 resolution?

.
I've tried older SLi setups and I know what you mean.
I can tell you though, since the Radeon 5XXX series and the GF-100's, SLi and Crossfire setups are much smoother/reliable then in the past.

My 5770's gave me 5870 performance and worked great in 11/14 games.
SLi GTX 460's aren't a bad idea.

They are also quiet and powerful.
I would say, it comes down to what games you play, and how tech savy you are at dealing with driver issues/updates, patches here and there.

Although the last time I had my 5770's going I used the 10.11
s and AMD is finally starting to tighten the bolts on their driver set...slowly.
When they work, the work well.
