[Kotaku] A Nintendo Argument Against Achievements - Page 13

What's the point in getting people to list 10 really good games. Everyone's opinion differs , that argument will get you nowhere lol.
Only people who care about achievements are people who wants bragging rights. IF you truly want to 100% complete the game you would do it whether there is achievements or not. You don't need the stupid pop-up to motivate you.

Nintendo don't need to add achievements so gamers can stroke their e-penor online. For those that want to collect all the stars in Mario Galaxy don't need an achievement to tell them to. They would do it naturally. So the achievement is basically there prolonging the replay value and brings nothing useful for the gaming scene. If you are playing the game to work for an achievement is just plane stupid. Play the game because you enjoy it.

How many people who play Nintendo gives a crap about achievements anyways. They play because they enjoy the game.
Yup...

I think achievements would be much cooler if you couldn't go online and read how to do it. The game becomes just a big task machine after that IMO. If devs made it so you just stumble on achievements then that would be cooler, as in, they never release what you have to do in order to get the achievements. Some people could figure some out, but don't make it so you can go back and READ what you did in order to unlock the whoaaa rah rah rah thingy that kills everyone.

Well, it's higher definition than 640x480. Which previous to the 360, all consoles used.

Other than that I don't see where you're going with this.

EDIT:

Tell a lie, didn't the first XBOX have 576i support?

For me it depends on the game; if it is going to be a slog with no-fun, then I don't care.

Lego games, though... well... they are just so much FUN that I usually go for the achievements.
Same with games like FONV, or drakes.

Nintendo? Wants to play with the big boys? How about updating their console first, and maybe oh, I don't know, not making another retarded mario game?
Here's my thinking about modern consoles. If I want a top-end console with excellent graphics, controls, and gameplay, I'll turn on my computer. So for the consoles, I would rather have a unique experience than a watered down version of what I could play on my PC. This is what nintendo offers to me. Instead of having photorealistic graphics, they have stylistic, vibrant, and colorful graphics, that mirror stylistic, vibrant, and colorful games. This is why I'm going to get a 3DS and not a PSP2. I want an interesting handheld, not one I could easily substitute my phone for.

Achievements are kind of a "meh" issue to me. I certainly don't mind them in a game, and it can definitely be kind of cool to pull of some insane killstreak or move and get a little gratification because your system recognizes your undeniable awesomeness, but I never have gone out of my way to unlock them. I'd rather go back to the system of unlocking concept art, music, etc., not some arbitrary points that are inconsistently easy or difficult to get across different games and, hence, don't have any real value.
