Want to overclock to 4 ghz on 920

Thread Starter
Hello, I'm new to this forum and want some guiding of how to overclock my i7 Nehalem to at least 3.8 or 4 ghz. I've already experimented with overclocking and got my cpu stable at 3.2 ghz so far. Thing is I can't overclock until my corsair dominator RAM gets here from newegg, cause the ram I have now sucks and will not be able to overclock without it melting. Anyway, a friend of mine says that overclocking to 3.8 or 4 ghz takes alot more than just setting the bclk frequency, multiplier, and voltage. What i wanted to ask was what should i set my frequencies to (including dram so it doesn't bottleneck) to be able to achieve 3.8 and 4 ghz speeds with stability. Any help would be great.

Also my mobo is a P6t Deluxe V2

Welcome to OCN, getting a i7 920 to 4ghz is fairly easy as long as you have a D0 stepping, if you got the C0 stepping your pretty much out of luck. given that you have a D0 stepping chip all you need to do is put your memory multiplier to 8x, your Uncore multiplier to 16x and your CPU multiplier to 19x, then use 1.25vcore and a BCLK of 210. that should at least give you a bootable 4ghz overclock. you may need to increase CPU VTT and QPI PLL a little, bout 50mv each to get it stable.

C0's rarely go beyond 3.80Ghz

Try these settings:

BLCK: 191
MULTI: 21
VCORE: 1.35V
CPU PLL: [AUTO]
VTT: [AUTO]
RAM: 1.65V
and keep the ram AT or below it's recommended speed.
