[Worklog] Project "Waited Long Enough" [Done, for now] - Page 2

Subbed for how this turns out. I have the same case as you, so I'm waiting to see how this water cooling turns out.

I'm not sure if the stock fan the top comes with moves enough air for a rad though does it?

So....sad sad news....I started to take the first gpu waterblock off the card, laid it down and started to take the screws outta the waterblock and was amazed to find out none of them were tight at all......just barely even trying to turn the screws was enough to make them start retract outta the block....glad I didn't hook this up to water, it would have leaked like a sieve.....and here are the pictures of the aftermath of mistreatment at someone else's hands.

ugh.....makes me sick at my stomach to look at it...

Any suggestions on cleaning up this remnants of the gulf oil spill??
The O-ring seems to be still flexible and plyable so I'm good there....so just use Alcohol to clean up the block and the plexi????

Well I'm not sure yet...all I can find anywhere on the fan is that it's a 24db fan...which gives no clue as to the flow.....I still plan on using two push fans...have a couple of candidates laying around, some scythe's some typhoons, some ultra krazes etc.....

So trying to clean this dried up algae off the block I'm amazed at how much slag is left from the manufacturing process of this block....I would guess this would make hot spots on the block and not allowing the temps to be absorbed evenly, but that's just me...plus this left over slag is easy to break off, which metal flowing in a WC system just sounds like you would be flirting with a catastrophic failure of a pump in the future.......man I'm glad I opened this thing up.....

Take a look...

still waiting on cleaning suggestions.......Thanks in advance....

Vinegar + Water + Toothbrush

Probably going to be your best bet. Really get the juices flowing here.

Just look at all this metal left over, all of this EASILY broke off, and then like a virus.....into the system they would have been floating around.....causing havoc in my WC system.....

I don't know how Koolance would have let this pass quality control....but it did....then was abused by someone, and now is mine, and left to me to mend it.....this happens so much in my life..LOL

You can probably clean the transparent mid section with CLR, it's safe on acrylic. Is the base nickel plated copper? I know that CLR will clean copper, but it leaves it tarnished, which you can clean back off using tarnx. I'm not sure what it does to nicked, though. If the plating isn't very stout, it might take it off. That block is nickel plated, right?
