AM3 Air Cooler?

Thread Starter
What coolers(Heatsink and fan, mind you) are good for the AM3 Socket and doesn't block your memory? I've heard Hyper 212 is good, but it's going to cover atleast 2 of my tall memories. Any good suggestions? Under 40-50 bucks would be nice.

Just to note, I have a HAF 922 Mid Tower ATX case, Athlon ii X4 645 Propus, and a ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard.

Suggesting one that doesn't block my memory but still performs good would be nice.

I think every good air cooler will block at least one(if not more) of your ram slots. the usual workaround is to get rams that dont have large heat spreaders, but i guess u already have such modules. believe the best option for you is to get a water cooler like H50.... works better than hyper212+

If I were you you, I'd just remove the heat spreaders and get the best CPU cooler you can afford. I'm yet to see anything that convinces me they are worth it and not just marketing hype.

Not all RAM heatsinks have removable heatspreaders.

Exactly what RAM sticks do you have? Some really good coolers actually clear some high RAM heatsinks.

you can use coolermaster hyper tx3.......... its a small cooler, works better than the stock one.

PS: if you dont want tower coolers, then i would STILL suggest the H50.

Water cooling is out of the question. I have had some bad history with them that we need not go into it. And yes, you can't remove my heat spreader. I have G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL

Especially the fact that there is NO video out there for the AM3 socket and it had leaked for me before on my 2 grand gig.

Alright, thanks for the suggestion, I'll go research ASAP

Saw some good reviews and not too many people complaining about the ram. Though on the online manual it says only retention plate for 775/1156 and AM2, will it still fit on my AM3 Chip/mobo?

Also ,it says apply a thin layer of thermal grease onto the surface of the cooler base. with AS5, how much should I put? How much do I spread it? Also, even though it does not instruct me to, should I add some grease onto the CPU as well?

how bout you guys look at a BTF80-90 (Not the 85 or 95) or this ZALMAN CNPS 7500 i would be found at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118035

Just use the AM2 Clips.

the VX3 is very good but...

Yes the AM2 Clips will work ,it is the same processor but with 2 pins taken off.

And always add goop to the cpu kind of make a swirly from the center out.
