AM3 Air Cooler? - Page 2

Zalman CNPS9900 MAX, pricey, but can handle your quad no problem, and will not interfere with ram.

yep..... it will fit nicely. get the board outta the cabinet while attaching the cooler.
use a small drop of thermal paste at the center of the cpu. press down the cooler. now take it away and observe that the grease has spread almost everywhere to cover the surface of the cpu. If any place is left dry, apply a verrry small amount of grease there and you are done. There are other ways of applying TIM too but this simple one is effective enough. The hyper TX3 itself comes with some cooler master grease which is not very bad itself.

So I'm guessing when I apply some pressure onto the pasted CPU, it will also automatically apply some on the heat sink? Or does it matter at all whether the heatsink is completely covered or not as well?
More or less, yes. Sometimes especially after your paste has cured, it will cover your CPU and the cooler. Some coolers though because of a wide compatibility spread, have a cooling surface larger than your CPU. I would ensure that your cpu is well covered with your thermal paste/grease. Many people have said that excess grease can be an issue. So, I wouldn't cover your "HSF", your CPU cooler, with grease, then install. Follow what Leopold and theamdman are suggesting. These are very good suggestions and nearly the same way I've installed mine and I've never had to remove and/or re-paste my CPU's.

I'm in the same boat as you looking for an AM3 cooler, so let us know how it goes. I'm looking at trying the H50 though..

Hopefully I don't have the same issues as you

Good Luck mate

Xigmatek dark knight only blocks 1 slot, it's an alright cooler about the same as a 212+. The best option would be an h50 thought, great cooling plus nothing gets blocked
