Recommend me a camera - Page 2

you will not be able to take pictures like that with a rebel series camera. as r31ncardnat3d recommended, the xxD series is probably your best bet. you can also look at the nikon d7000, pentax k7 or the sony a55. all these cameras will offer 5fps+ which is what you need for shots like that. the sony offers the best burst speed (7fps raw and 10fps with jpg) but it does have ghosting issues that may or may not be a problem....

Just curious, why 7fps raw and 10fps jpg? Wouldn't it take more processing power power to convert the image to a jpg then 7fps?

Ok, I'll take a look at those cameras and do some more research on my own. I'll try to keep my posts to a minimum as I may change my desision in the next few months ( It'll take a while bagging groceries to make enough money ).

Thanks again for all the help.

It's a matter of writing the files to the card. RAW files are at least twice as big as JPGs on average, so by slowing it down you don't fill the buffer as fast.

If I decide to get the 40D, should I get the lens that comes with the kit, or get something else?

i believe the 40d kit lens is the 28-135 which is a decent lens. try the lens and the camera combo first then decide if you need another lens.

If I buy the 40D off ebay and it doesn't come with the lens, what would you recommend?

What's your budget?
Well if your budget is about $630 and wouldn't mind buying refurbished from Canon, I would recommend you check out my thread Here.

Basically it's a refurbished Canon 40D with 28-135 IS Lens for $630 with free shipping after two coupon codes. Oh and you also get a Rebel Gadget bag free with purchase.

The 40D will give you the 6 FPS that you need for action Photography and the included lens will reach that 100ft that you wanted.

The max I'd probably go is 700, but I'm looking for something sub 500.

With that budget I'd grab the 28-135mm used then. It's an old lens but still performs well and suits your needs perfectly. The 15-85mm is another nice choice but is pricier @ $600 used.
