What would be the best x16 card you could install before x1 would bottleneck the card?
My 5870 lost 20FPS in JC2 Dark Tower benchmark going from X16 to X1, hope this helps.

If you aren't going to sell the card ever or use it at it's full bandwith, just cut of 15 of the 16 little things and bam an X1 card.

Yea you just cut out the back of the slot, you can use a soldering iron to melt it too. which isn't an issue for me. I am use to modding.
just wanted to help out my friend so they can play games. I would breath new life into their computer. right now it has GMA 945.

Very interesting. Thanks for the info. I would much rather mod the slot then destroy the cards ability to go back to x16.

Yes, that would be the better option. My board has an X16 slot that constantly runs at X1.
