Get rid of that 1 2GB DIMM and you might see a nice boost in performance
Why: it's not running in triple channel... no it's not even dual channel, it's SINGLE CHANNEL. You get big gains going to dual channel all around. For CAD it would likely be very important.

so if i remove a 2 gig stick the pc should run with no problems? it will be using a 20-24" monitor

the reason why i ask is because , i know some one who wants to buy my rig to run cad and i dont want them to run into any problems when they are drafting on cad

Funning Cad? I am not sure what that means.

If you are talking about doing 2d CAD work on an older version of CAD, the 9800gt will do fine. What works better is a workstation GPU. I run an ATI Fire Pro v8800 at work, but I do a bit of 3d cad work as well and it runs great. But I also run some 3d cad at home on my sig rig and it works great as well. Your main concern is the Open GL version you are capable of running on the GPU and the Open GL version required by your CAD software. The 9800gt is plenty powerful but I remember mine shuddering and artifacting in Solid Works a few years ago.

Leave the extra stick of ram in. Just tell the purchaser to buy another one for best results?

the version of open gl is 1.5 if i remember right,
if i upgrade the card to this http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...-322-_-Product would that work better? i dont want to up the price much because hes on budget and I dont mind replacing the card because i can reuse it in a older rig.

yes its for card 2d and solid works he might be using cad 3d some times but only for final views

This
Or this
Or this as the last resort
The 9500 would be a downgrade in every way.
