Metal Fan Cover

Thread Starter
Can someone please enlighten me as to what the purpose of the metal cover is on this 120mm exhaust fan?

Is it worth keeping on or does it not make a difference? I had a feeling it's to do with preventing you from touching the fan accidentally while it's on, which may result in minor injuries.

It's to protect the fan from hanging cables (or fingers) that may get caught and hence damaging it (Or your hand).

Yup, it's a safety guard.

Also, minor damage? I stuck my hands in my CPU/Various fans whist using a techbench, and not only hurting like hell, I recently split a nail in half, shearing a chunk off of it.

Fan safety is srsbznz.

I can't say enough how much I love them things. Saves my fingers from the GT-15s all the time. Before I had them I was constantly getting my fingers smashed by them fan blades . Not only does it hurt like hell, it scares the hell out of you too.

It's specifically because I kept injuring myself that I stopped opening my case while the computer's on. I didn't want to pay money for something that protects me against an event that should never happen to me anyway :/

I use a finger guard on my mid-case fan because it is up against a SATA cable from an SSD and a corner that would otherwise get into the fan blades:
