Help Scrutinize My "Dream" Build?

Thread Starter
Hello everyone,

I've been lurking these forums (mostly the watercooling forums) for over a year now in preparation for saving the money to build my dream comp. My goal is to the best PC I can, sacrificing as little as possible but staying under $3,000 (after tax and shipping).

I would like some input on this build, as this will be only my third time messing around with buying seperate parts and only my FIRST time buying all parts and putting all together my self.

Also note, I will be Liquid Cooling this system, which is where a few hundred is going.

So here are the parts:

Case: HAF 932 Full Tower w/ Side Window = $139.99

MoBo: ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AMS 890FX = $204.99

Power Supply: CORSAIR CMPSU-1000HX 1000W = $229.99

Processor: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T = $229.99

RAM: (2 x 4GB) G.SKILL Ripjaws Series DDR3 1600 = $159.99

Graphics Card: XFX Radeon HD 5970 = $599.99

OS Boot Drive: OCZ Agility 2 60GB SSD = $114.99

Data Drive: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB = $64.99

Optical Drive: 2x ASUS Black DVD Burner 24x = 2x$16.99

Thermal Compound: 2x Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound = $ 2x9.99

Thermal Remover: Arctic Silver ACN-60ML = $9.99
(This is for removing the stock cooling on the GPU to install the Water Block)

That is everything i'm buying (baring theWC parts). If I forgot anything, especially any small things, please let me know!

Thanks in advance!

You should look into SB instead. see what kinda deals you can find for that. that PSU is huge overkill for your system go with like a 700 or 750.

8 gb is too much. HX1000 is too much.

I disagree with 8gb being too much. I love having 8gb. It really depends on how much you like to do and how many programs you have running at once.

Well, in regards to going overboard, I'm trying to future proof it in case of newer upgrades. Plus, if I went with less in those areas, where would you recommend I put the saved money? Like I said, I have money to put in to this, why not go overboard in some areas?

if you want to go overboard, then wait and go with the 2011 socket Ivy bridge chips when they come out.

Don't bother with TC remover. Just use isopropyl alcohol. Saves you $9. Newegg doesn't need another $10 from you.

With the new AMD bulldozer this close and sandy bridge out the door do you really want to spend that much cash right now ?

I think you should wait or go with sandy bridge.

Agreed x100000000.

Get sandy bridge 2600k. Screw custom water, it's too expensive and not needed. Get a corsair h70 and have fun with your 4.5-4.8 ghz overclock.

Use the money saved from your custom loop for 2x gtx580. You will be VERY happy.
