Alright, what you are doing wrong is the "#"

Your entry should read

player.additem 0000000f 500

"0000000f" is the item code and "500" is the quantity.

Also, you have to make sure you "own" the cabinet you put the items in. If you don't, they will be taken. Example, if you ever get a chance to buy a house in town, you can store things there with no problem.

Is it safe to store things in the Fighters guild (since I joined)? I put some stuff there and it hasn't disappeared after a few days but if it will I will remove them.

I'm not sure about guilds. I want to say it is, but I'd be safe and not store anything there you are not worried about losing.

I have been storing things in the personal chests in the living quarters of the dark brotherhood sanctuary forever (the owners are dead) with no problem. I think it is more of a problem with cabinets that replenish food and such that cause items to vanish.

If houses weren't so expensive I would buy one, but I only got 10k right now.

i left some stuff in my new Skinsgard house (its a mod) and i was out adventuring. when i got home, there was a thief stealing all my stuff, so i killed him. then it said i killed a member of the thieves guild
Saw that on another forum.

IIRC the items stay in the guild places for 3 days before disappearing. After that they're gone.

I might be wrong though.

I usually stored things in a random crate on the streets in anvil. It was great. I could steal stuff, run from the guards, store all my items in the crate, go to jail and go to jail.
Then when I got out of jail, I would just go back and get my stolen stuff and sell it.

God I miss that game. It is epic!! Can't wait for Skyrim

I learned my lesson back in Morrowind: be a slob unless I install a house mod. Yep, lost some dwarven loot back then. Now I just leave things everywhere: in shops, in the streets, near fountains. Not usually stuff I really need but I just want. At least I can come visit it. The exception is my Anvil house, a nice little house someone did a while ago.

For guilds, I just throw stuff on tables or on the floor. This way, it's easier to keep track of anyway. In one mage guild basement, I have about 40 of those bluegreen orbs for recharge on the floor. Makes for nice lighting.
