Building my first ever rig

Thread Starter
Hey everybody!, so i've been here on overclock for sometime now, always been itching to build myself a rig but never needed to since my laptop more than suffices. BUT NOW I FINALLY HAVE THE CHANCE!

my parents back home have two desktops.. if they can even still be called that,
ones a Pentium 3, the other is an AMD sempron. I threw the two desktops out the back door. now its time t make a new rig! It will eventually be mine so im gonna make a decent one, now help me with my decisions!!

Here's what im planning, oh its mostly just used for normal surfing and gaming for me.

Phenom II X4 955 BE/ or should i get SB?
ATI 6970/ or 6950 unlocked and flashed?

now i need some help with the motherboard, what would you recommend?
how many Watts PSU would i need?
And also recommend me a case please. preferably a SFF case but otherwise a mATX case will do too

okay doekey: i am not sure of your budget but assuming that you can afford 6970 then i think you have some amount of $$$$$
for the cpu definatley get sb because intel has much better architecture of cpus,
for gpu you can get the 6950 and just flash it to the 6970 bios, because the 6970 and the 6950 have basically the same hardware
for mother board hows about this one???
for ram hows this one?
for psu i reccomend about 800 watts; that way you have plenty of room to expand
case: this one is really reliable by most users
sound card: This one
ssd
and this HDD
Now for cooling i really dont know your preference but if you want any suggestions for good ones let me know

now the total cost for all my suggestion plus your gpu is 1.4K and i would leave about 200 dollars for sb; if thios is way too much i can help you design a much cheaper one

Dont just assume

Quote:

Sandy bridge actually has better price / performance over the AMD Phen IIx6
Proof They are Both $230 Phen Sandy

So if you are planning on spending $230 on a proccessor go with Sandy bridge. Its better then a six core. Dont be fooled by HT

Quote:

Not all cards Flash up.

And the AMD 6950 V GTX 470

Exchange blows in benchmarks (proof)

GTX 470 goes for $220 after rebate Here
AMD 6950 goes for $290 after rebate Here

Thats good.
Quote:

How about no. There are better (Higher quality) PSU for less. Review

For example: This Corsair one

Quote:

I would say that most if not all mass production cases are reliable. What your looking for is practicality. In which case there are better practicality / money

it really just depends on taste. Many consider the HAF series to be ugly.

sound card: This one
ssd
Umm Plexicrap?

I think even this would be a better deal

Quote:
and this HDD
I would also avoid Hitachi they are cheap for a reason.

Seagates have a long warranty (5 years) and read write faster

Like this one

I think you shouldn't try designing another one.
