Nope. A Hawk is probably overkill at that res tbh.

A 460 would max out most games in 1440x900, if you can find a good deal on one, grab it. And when your not gaming, you can get your feet wet in F@H

I plan to Fold my GPU provided there is a linux client, and how "futureproof" would 2x Hawks in SLI be @ 1440x900?

There is a linux client:

Code:
http://folding.stanford.edu/Download
And just remember, the 4xx series was not exactly known for it's low temps or low noise (especially in comparison to the 5xx series).

But as far as playability goes, at that res, you'll be fine for a while.

Actually that really only applies to the GF100s. 460s are GF104s, technically the first Fermi cards to come with the lower power consumption/heat.

But yes, in SLI those will last you for years at that res. Two 460s are more powerful than any single card solution available atm.

The only games that are really cpu bottlenecked are ones using Source engine, and stuff like Supreme Commander, and apparently FSX.

You'll be set for a while with the 460s, and overclocking your C2D.

If you upgrade your vid, you'll go from two "bottlenecks" to one, you'll still need upgraded CPU. But at only 1440, if you can get that E5300 to 3.6+ you'll be OK.

Once you upgrade your CPU, a GTX460 will barely be working at 1440x900, which is about the same stress as 1280x1024. Two 460s in SLI is just a complete waste of power for 1440 and would be stupid. Honestly a GTX260 would be plenty for that res. If you're going to spend another over $400 on vid, make it one GTX460 (or 6870) and a new monitor. I'm guessing your on a 19" 16:10 which sucks for gaming anyway.

Source engine dates from the time of Athlon 64 dominance, it's ancient and his present rig could handle any source game.
